What is matariki? Matariki is a celebration. It is the name of the star cluster. My family thinks that matariki is about spending time with family and friends.
Matariki is a celebration that most of the world does every year. It is about sharing food, telling stories and playing music.
Why is Matariki important to New Zealand, Aotearoa? It is important because matariki is about fun and family. Maybe in the future for matariki my family and I will go on a trip for matariki.
My biggest challenge was netball because at the start i did not know how to play so i had to learn. My favourite part this term is dancing like the stars performance because i had lots of fun with Addison and the team. i learned that maths is fun when you try it and if you fail it is ok.
My favourite subject is maths because you never know when you will need it my mum and Dad uses math everyday for work.
this term my group has been working on something called a v-hut.v-huts is what people used to live in as their house in the olden days. such as the Europeans the Polynesians and everyone else who came.my groups creation is all about nature & V huts. I learnt that the Polynesians in the Europeans brought disease to New Zealand and made our country bad but then came good again.
the day of the ferrymead trip i woke up so happy i could not sty still. In the school van i was getting more and more exited when we got there their was a gate with a code. When we went through the gate ti was like the adventure starting. When we parked we all walked to an archway were it changed from 2021 to the 70s 80s 90s. first we went to a room were the girls and boys got split up to get dressed. The girls got dressed in a dress and the boy wear a suit once we were all dressed the activities started the 4 activities where immigration v Huts crafts and packing a trunk. I learned that the people were on the ship for 3 to 4 months.
Where is the pup’s mother? Sleeping in the snow.
What animal is she? seal.
What might she have learnt already from her mother? How to find food.
How old is the pup? 2 months old
Do you remember learning to swim? What were the biggest challenges you had to overcome? Droning.
Will the pup be brave enough to enter the water? I believe she can.
How is it that some animals are better swimmers than others? Maybe overcoming swimming in the cold water.
Would you be able to do it? No to cold.
How do you think it would feel to swim in that water? Freezing cold water
The young pup peered down into the icy water below with a growing feeling of trepidation. Only a few days old, she had learnt so much already from watching her mother, but this challenge was her greatest so far.
How would it feel to be submerged? What would she find lurking underneath the surface? How would she ever get back onto dry land?
Questions flooded her mind like a torrent of icy water, but bravely she inched closer to the edge. A change of spirit came to her head. I can do it. I can do it slowly. She submerged her body into the water. Slow mum said she slowly went down.
The next day of swimming she was a pro. look at me go mum i can swim all by myself. after her swim she did not feel herself she got sick her mum did not know what to do later that day she died of cancer.
